wöb wöb

06-2023

OBJECTIVE

Create a lighting system using a flat-pack approach, similar to IKEA's flat-pack furniture. The assembly must follow a radial or linear pattern. Additionally, use and program an arduino nano to control the led lights.

Cardboard is a relatively flexible material. In creating our flat pack light, we wanted to celebrate the uniquely flexible nature of cardboard in our design. The living hinge allows for the wöb wöb to be bent and displayed in a variety of orientations— whether on a desk or hanging from the ceiling.

Designed in collaboration with Harrison Brown
Timeline: 3 weeks

INSPIRATION + RESEARCH

Tasked with creating a linear / radial pattern, my partner and I took a day trip to the Burke museum to find inspiration— which we found in many spines and ribs of the fossils on display.

IDEATION

Generated napkin sketches and low fidelity prototypes before ultimately deciding on the rib concept shown (upper right).
